What should you know about conception fatigue?

Short answer
Fatigue around conception is common, but persistent or severe tiredness deserves assessment for pregnancy and other health causes.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What fatigue around conception can mean
Trying to conceive can involve disrupted sleep, emotional strain, changing routines, and increased attention to bodily sensations. If conception has occurred, early hormonal changes may contribute to sleepiness, although fatigue alone cannot confirm pregnancy. Tiredness may also reflect anaemia, dehydration, a recent infection, low food intake, alcohol use, or an ongoing condition such as burnout, coeliac disease, kidney disease, or chronic fatigue syndrome.
Notice when the fatigue began, whether it is present every day, and whether rest improves it. Record associated symptoms such as breathlessness, paleness, fever, weight change, bowel symptoms, thirst, or reduced urine.
What you can do now
Keep a regular sleep schedule, eat balanced meals, drink fluids regularly, and use gentle activity if it does not worsen symptoms. Avoid using supplements or stimulants as a substitute for assessment, particularly if pregnancy is possible. A home pregnancy test may be useful after a missed period; follow its instructions and arrange clinical advice if the result is unclear or symptoms continue.
A clinician may review your menstrual history, medicines, sleep, diet, and mental wellbeing, then decide whether examination or blood tests are appropriate. Mention any heavy periods, restrictive diet, recent illness, or possible exposure to COVID-19.
When to seek care
Arrange a medical appointment if fatigue lasts beyond a short illness, interferes with work or daily activities, keeps returning, or comes with heavy bleeding, breathlessness, fainting, unexplained weight change, persistent fever, marked thirst, or swelling. Seek urgent help for collapse, severe breathing difficulty, confusion, chest pain, or severe abdominal pain, especially if pregnancy is possible.
Questions for your doctor
Could pregnancy, anaemia, thyroid problems, infection, sleep difficulty, or another condition explain my fatigue? Which symptoms should prompt urgent care? Are any medicines, vitamins, or supplements unsuitable while pregnancy is possible? Would testing for blood count, iron, or other causes be appropriate?

Seek assessment when it is severe, persistent, disabling, or accompanied by breathlessness, fainting, heavy bleeding, fever, confusion, or severe pain.
