What should you know about CNS fatigue?

Short answer
CNS fatigue is persistent mental or physical exhaustion that deserves attention when rest does not restore your usual energy.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What CNS fatigue can feel like
You may notice reduced concentration, slower thinking, heavy limbs, low motivation, or a need to pause during ordinary activities. Fatigue is a symptom rather than a diagnosis. Poor sleep, emotional strain, dehydration, a recent infection, alcohol use, anaemia, thyroid problems, kidney disease, or medicine effects can all contribute. Chronic fatigue syndrome has a distinct pattern that needs clinical assessment; ordinary tiredness should not be labelled that way from one symptom alone.
Practical next steps
Keep a brief record of sleep, activity, meals, fluids, mood, medicines, and when the tiredness rises. Aim for a steady sleep routine, regular nourishing meals, gentle movement within your limits, and enough fluids unless a clinician has advised restriction. Avoid using alcohol as a sleep aid. Arrange a primary-care appointment if fatigue persists, interferes with work or self-care, or follows a new medicine or illness; an examination and selected tests can look for treatable contributors.
When to seek care
Seek urgent help for fatigue with chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, new confusion, one-sided weakness, or difficulty speaking. Prompt medical review is also sensible for black stools, unexplained bleeding, severe dehydration, or rapidly worsening weakness. These warning signs need assessment because fatigue can accompany problems that require timely treatment.
Questions for your doctor
Could my sleep, medicines, mood, diet, or a recent infection explain this fatigue? Which symptoms should I track, and would blood tests or another examination be useful? What level of activity is appropriate while we investigate it?

Questions people ask
Is CNS fatigue the same as being sleepy?
No. Sleepiness is a tendency to fall asleep, while fatigue can feel like depleted energy or reduced mental stamina without falling asleep.
Can dehydration worsen fatigue?
Yes. Losing fluids can contribute to weakness, headache, dizziness, and reduced concentration, so fluid needs should be considered alongside other causes.
