Chest X-rays for immigration medical checks

The image may show changes affecting the lungs, heart outline, or surrounding chest structures. It is interpreted with the immigration medical form, examination findings and any required laboratory tests. A screening image is not a complete health assessment, and an unclear or abnormal finding does not by itself establish a diagnosis. Depending on the pathway, the centre may request additional images, sputum testing, or a review by a clinician.

Use an approved medical centre when your immigration instructions require one, and bring the requested identification and forms. Tell staff if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, cannot stand, or have a history of lung disease. Follow instructions about clothing and jewellery. Ask how the report is submitted, whether you receive a copy, and what happens if further assessment is recommended. Tuberculosis Screening may involve tests other than an X-ray.

Do not wait for an administrative screening appointment if you have severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, blue lips, coughing up blood, or new confusion. Seek prompt clinical advice for a persistent cough, prolonged fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss. These symptoms need medical assessment regardless of immigration paperwork.

Ask which immigration requirement the image addresses, whether pregnancy changes the plan, how additional testing is arranged, and who will contact you about the result. Confirm whether your current medicines or past chest images should be disclosed.
