What should you know about a CCP blood test?

CCP refers to cyclic citrullinated peptide. The test checks a blood sample for anti-CCP antibodies, which can support an assessment for rheumatoid arthritis when joints are painful, swollen, stiff, or warm. A result is not a diagnosis by itself.

A positive result can occur before clear joint changes, while a negative result does not rule out every inflammatory joint problem. Your clinician may consider the pattern of symptoms, an examination, other blood tests, and imaging. Other illnesses can also explain tiredness, aches, or abnormal blood results.

Ask whether you need to prepare; many blood tests do not require fasting, but preparation depends on the wider set of tests ordered. Tell the clinician about medicines, supplements, pregnancy, allergies, and previous test results.

After the sample, keep the dressing in place for the advised period and seek help if bleeding does not settle.
