What should you know about cat cloudy urine?

Urine may look cloudy when it is concentrated or contains mucus, blood, crystals, white cells, or other material. Dehydration can make urine darker and stronger-smelling. A urinary tract infection may cause burning, urgency, or frequent small amounts, while a kidney infection may add fever, back or side pain, nausea, or feeling ill. Cloudiness alone cannot identify the cause.

Notice when the change began, how often it occurs, and whether there is pain, odour, fever, blood, or altered frequency. Drink fluids normally unless a clinician has given you a fluid restriction, and do not take leftover antibiotics. Arrange medical review if cloudiness persists, returns, or comes with urinary discomfort; testing a urine sample may help identify infection or other causes.

Seek urgent care for inability to pass urine, severe lower abdominal pain, visible blood, fever with chills, vomiting, confusion, or pain in the back or side. Prompt assessment is especially important during pregnancy, in children, or when you have kidney disease or reduced immunity. Worsening symptoms should not be managed by waiting at home.
