Bump on a stretch mark

Stretch marks form where skin has stretched and the supporting dermal structure has changed. Their surface can feel uneven as they mature, but a distinct new bump may instead be an irritated follicle, blocked pore, inflamed scar-like area, or unrelated lesion. Note whether it is soft or firm, skin-coloured or red, itchy or painful, and whether it sits exactly within the mark or extends beyond it. Pregnancy, weight change, muscle growth, and some medicines can alter stretch marks, while a rapidly changing nodule needs its own diagnosis.

Take a dated photograph beside a familiar object for scale, without repeatedly rubbing the area. Keep the skin moisturised if it feels dry, and avoid picking or attempting to flatten the bump. Do not start a procedure on an undiagnosed lesion.
