What should you know about bronchiolitis how long does it last?

The illness commonly starts with cold symptoms and then affects the smallest airways. Breathing and feeding can become more difficult before they ease. Improvement should be judged by easier breathing, better feeding, and normal interaction, not by the cough disappearing immediately. Let the child rest and offer small feeds often. Keep them upright while awake and supervised, clear nasal mucus gently, and keep the environment free from smoke. Note whether breathing is becoming easier and whether wet nappies and feeds are returning to normal. Avoid rushing back to group settings while the child is unwell. If progress stops or reverses, arrange a clinical review rather than waiting for the cough alone to resolve.

Seek urgent help for breathing pauses, blue or grey lips, severe effort, grunting, or unusual difficulty waking.
