Blue eye light sensitivity: what it can mean

Short answer
Blue eye light sensitivity means bright or blue-toned light causes discomfort, squinting or a need to shade the eyes; the cause may be eye irritation, migraine or another condition.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What it can mean
Light sensitivity, also called photophobia, may occur with dry or irritated eyes, inflammation, an eye infection such as Conjunctivitis, or a Migraine. Blue screens and strong indoor lighting can make discomfort more noticeable, but persistent symptoms should not be attributed to screens alone. One eye being affected, redness, discharge or a change in vision can point to an eye problem.
What to do now
Move to softer, indirect lighting and reduce glare from screens. Sunglasses can help outdoors, but wearing very dark lenses indoors for long periods may make light tolerance poorer. Rest your eyes, avoid rubbing them, and remove contact lenses if they feel irritating. Arrange an eye or medical assessment if the symptom keeps returning, interferes with normal activities, or comes with redness or blurred vision.
When to seek care
Seek urgent care for sudden severe eye pain, sudden vision loss, a marked change in vision, a very red eye with nausea, or light sensitivity after an eye injury. Get emergency help when light sensitivity occurs with a severe headache, fever, stiff neck, confusion, or a new rash because Meningitis needs prompt assessment.
Questions for your doctor
Could this be related to dry eye, Conjunctivitis or Migraine? Should I stop wearing contact lenses? Does the pattern suggest that an eye examination or neurological assessment is needed?
