Blood particles in cough: what should you know?

Hard coughing during a cold or Acute Bronchitis can irritate delicate airway surfaces. Blood may instead drain from an irritated nose, including with Allergic Rhinitis. Seek prompt medical advice for fever, night sweats, unexplained weight change, worsening cough, or blood appearing repeatedly. A clinician may listen to your chest, inspect your nose and throat, and decide whether further tests are needed.

Ask whether the blood seems to come from your lungs, throat or nose, what may be driving the cough, and whether your medicines affect bleeding. Mention smoking exposure, recent infection, wheezing, reflux symptoms and any breathing limitation.
