If a compounded topical preparation has been offered, ask who prescribed it, why that route was selected, how it should be stored, what skin reaction is expected and what monitoring applies. Use only the measured amount and area specified by the clinician.

Stop applying an unidentified or compounded product and contact the prescriber if the area becomes increasingly painful, swollen, blistered, weeping or crusted. Spreading redness with fever can indicate infection and needs prompt assessment.
