What to know about an AlloX2 tissue expander

The surgeon places the expander after breast surgery, beneath or near the chest tissues. It can be adjusted during planned visits as the tissue gradually accommodates the intended shape. The device is generally a stage in reconstruction, not the permanent implant or final result.

Your recovery depends on the operation, tissue quality, previous or planned radiotherapy, and other treatments. Firmness, pulling, pressure, swelling, and changes in sensation may occur. Your surgeon will explain how the expander is monitored and when the next reconstruction stage may be considered.

Keep every surgical follow-up appointment and follow instructions for dressings, bathing, medicines, and movement. Do not press, massage, or exercise the area unless your team has advised it. Report new tightness, increasing pain, fluid leakage, wound changes, or a sudden difference between the breasts.

Contact your surgical team promptly if redness spreads, the wound opens, drainage develops, swelling increases, or pain is not controlled by the prescribed plan. Fever, chills, marked skin colour change, or rapidly worsening tightness needs prompt assessment. Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty or sudden facial swelling.

Ask how the AlloX2 device will be adjusted, what the planned exchange or alternative reconstruction is, and how cancer treatment may alter timing. Ask which wound findings are expected and which require a same-day call.
