When to try for pregnancy after an ectopic pregnancy

Do not stop prescribed treatment or begin folic acid at a special dose without checking the plan. Review other medicines, long-term health conditions and whether infection or tubal disease needs attention before conception.

When you decide to try, note the first day of each menstrual period and take a pregnancy test if a period is late. Contact maternity services early after a positive result, explaining the previous ectopic. They may arrange hormone measurements and a transvaginal ultrasound to locate the pregnancy.

During recovery, obtain urgent help for worsening abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, faintness, collapse, fever, a wound that becomes red or drains fluid, or feeling severely unwell. In a later suspected pregnancy, urgent assessment is needed for strong one-sided pelvic pain, shoulder-tip pain, heavy bleeding, fainting or pronounced dizziness.
