Individual follicles follow different growth cycles, so one area may look fuller sooner than another. Hair calibre, curl, colour contrast with the scalp, graft distribution, and ongoing loss of non-transplanted hair all influence the visible result.

New hairs may initially be fine, wiry, or difficult to style and can soften as they lengthen. Crown growth may appear slower or less dense because of the direction and swirl of the hair. Bright overhead light and wet hair also expose more scalp than dry hair in softer lighting.

A transplant redistributes follicles; it does not stop the underlying process affecting existing hair. Progressive thinning behind or around the grafted zone can alter the blend and should be separated from poor graft growth during the clinical assessment.

Continue ordinary gentle scalp care and protect exposed skin from strong sun. Avoid repeated pulling from tight hairstyles and address dandruff or scalp irritation rather than scratching. Use medicines prescribed for ongoing hair loss consistently, and report adverse effects instead of stopping or changing the dose without guidance.

Compare progress photographs taken with dry hair, similar length, matching angles, and consistent lighting. Bring pre-procedure images to the review. This gives the surgeon a better basis for assessing coverage, growth direction, donor appearance, and changes in surrounding native hair.

Book a review for a persistently sparse region, abrupt new thinning, a widening gap between grafted and native hair, or a donor area that remains noticeably uneven. The clinician can examine follicle openings and compare the pattern with the operative plan.

Do not wait for a routine appointment if you develop increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, pus, bleeding, open sores, or tender enlarging lumps. Sudden smooth bald patches or a scaly area with broken hairs also need assessment because a separate scalp condition may be present.

Ask which areas still show maturing hairs, whether native hair loss is changing the appearance, and how the donor supply affects future options. If you are dissatisfied, request a clear explanation of what can still improve naturally, what can be styled differently, and when any corrective decision would be sensible.
