One Month After an ARTAS Hair Transplant

ARTAS assists the follicular unit extraction process, but recovery still varies with the treated area, graft placement, skin response, and your clinic's protocol. The appearance at this stage does not show the finished density or hairline texture.

Short transplanted hairs may fall out as follicles shift into a resting phase. The recipient zone can therefore resemble its pre-procedure appearance for a while. Fine new hairs do not all emerge together, so early growth may look sparse or irregular.

Tiny extraction sites at the back or sides of the scalp are generally closing by this point. Residual redness, altered sensation, itch, or minor textural unevenness can remain. A clear photograph of both areas helps the treating team distinguish ordinary healing from a local problem.

Clean the scalp gently using your clinic's recommended shampoo and technique. Do not scrape crusts, pluck newly visible hairs, or press on inflamed bumps. Minimise direct sun exposure and use only headwear that your surgeon considers suitable for the healing recipient zone.

Before restarting heavy training, swimming, chemical treatments, hair fibres, or a very close haircut, confirm the timing with the transplant team. Continue any prescribed aftercare rather than substituting supplements or topical products without checking for irritation or interactions.

Arrange prompt assessment if redness is spreading rather than fading, pain is increasing, the scalp feels hot, or there is pus, bad-smelling drainage, fever, persistent bleeding, or substantial swelling. Painful clustered bumps should also be checked instead of squeezed.

Emergency care is appropriate for breathing difficulty, swelling of the lips or tongue, collapse, or another severe reaction. Contact the clinic about sudden patchy loss in the donor area, an open wound, or skin that becomes dark, blistered, or increasingly tender.

Bring photographs and ask whether healing differs between the harvested and implanted zones, what early growth pattern is expected from your graft map, and which grooming restrictions still apply. You can also clarify whether numbness or bumps require examination and when progress should next be documented.
