Poly-L-lactic acid filler is an injectable material that stimulates collagen production gradually rather than providing all volume immediately.

Poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA, is a biodegradable synthetic material used in some injectable aesthetic treatments. It is often described as a collagen biostimulator because the intended effect comes from encouraging the body to form collagen around treated areas, rather than simply placing a gel that supplies immediate fullness.

The material is prepared for injection and placed in specific tissue planes by a trained clinician. It is not the same as a hyaluronic-acid filler, and it is not designed for every facial area or every type of correction.

PLLA is supplied as a preparation that is mixed before use. The visible effect develops progressively as the body responds, so the treatment plan may be staged and assessed over time. Technique, dilution, placement, facial movement, and individual healing all influence the result.

PLLA may be considered for gradual improvement in selected areas of facial volume loss, contour, or skin support. A clinician may choose it when a slower, collagen-focused change is suitable. It is not a general-purpose solution for all lines, scars, lips, or facial shapes, and the exact injection sites depend on anatomy and the treatment objective.

Alternatives depend on the desired change. A hyaluronic-acid filler may provide a different type of contour or volume adjustment. Energy-based skin treatments, surgery, skincare, or no procedure may be more suitable for laxity, texture, or a mild concern. Your clinician should explain why a collagen biostimulator fits the goal and what trade-offs apply.

The appointment usually includes facial assessment, discussion of goals, preparation of the product, and injections at planned sites. Short-term swelling, tenderness, redness, or bruising can make the area look fuller before the intended response develops. Follow massage or other aftercare instructions exactly when provided, because product-specific care can affect healing.

Tell the clinician about previous fillers, inflammatory conditions, active skin infection, medicines that affect bleeding, and any history of unusual reactions. Seek prompt clinical advice for increasing pain, marked asymmetry, skin colour change, spreading redness, drainage, or vision symptoms after an injection.

Because PLLA works through a gradual collagen response, the change is not immediate and is not guaranteed. The duration varies with the person, treatment area, technique, and ongoing ageing. Follow-up helps the clinician decide whether the response is developing as expected.

Possible problems include lumps, nodules, unevenness, inflammation, infection, bleeding, and allergic or inflammatory reactions. Do not assume that a delayed lump is part of normal healing; report it so the treating clinician can assess it. Injections near sensitive facial structures require careful anatomical planning.
