Zoloft and dizziness

Zoloft is a brand of sertraline. People use the word dizziness for light-headedness, a spinning sensation, unsteadiness or feeling close to fainting. A new prescription, a dose change, missed meals, dehydration, anxiety and other conditions can all be relevant. Explaining the sensation precisely helps determine the next step.

Dizziness can be a presentation of anaemia, dehydration, low blood sugar or an inner-ear problem, among other conditions. It does not by itself show which cause is present. Note whether it occurs after standing, turning your head, exercising, taking medicine or going without food or fluid.

Sit or lie down when dizziness starts and rise slowly once it has passed. Avoid driving, climbing, swimming alone or using machinery until you feel steady. Drink fluids if you can do so safely, eat regular meals, and avoid alcohol or recreational drugs that may worsen unsteadiness.

Keep taking Zoloft as prescribed unless the prescriber directs otherwise. Record the time of each episode, its duration, the medicine dose time, meals, fluids, palpitations and any new medicines. Share that record with the prescriber, especially if episodes continue after starting or adjusting treatment.

Seek urgent medical help for dizziness with chest pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath, a new irregular heartbeat, weakness or numbness on one side, trouble speaking, severe headache, confusion, or a serious fall.
