Xyzal for nasal congestion

Xyzal contains levocetirizine, an antihistamine. It can reduce histamine-driven symptoms such as sneezing, itching and a runny nose. Nasal blockage may accompany allergic rhinitis, especially when exposure to an allergen such as house dust mites keeps irritating the nasal lining.

Congestion can also occur with a common cold, sinusitis or chronic sinusitis. Snoring, pauses in breathing during sleep and daytime sleepiness are separate concerns that may need assessment for obstructive sleep apnoea rather than allergy treatment alone.

Follow the product label or prescription, and ask a pharmacist if you are unsure whether Xyzal is suitable for you. Do not take more than directed or combine it with another antihistamine without advice. Drowsiness can occur, so avoid driving or hazardous tasks until you know your response.

Notice whether symptoms follow a pattern, such as mornings at home, contact with pets or a particular season. A clinician can use that detail to decide whether trigger reduction, an allergy medicine, a nasal treatment or an examination of the nose is appropriate.

Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, confusion, or severe illness. Arrange a medical review for one-sided blockage, repeated nosebleeds, fever with facial pain or swelling, a change in smell that persists, or sleep disruption from ongoing congestion.
