This controlled interaction may soften the appearance of uneven pigmentation, rough texture, and some sun-related changes. Treatment depth, density, and suitability vary with skin tone, the area treated, the concern, and the clinician’s assessment; thulium is not appropriate for every resurfacing goal.

Before treatment, disclose recent tanning, a history of cold sores, medicines that increase light sensitivity, and any tendency toward raised scars or prolonged pigment changes. Afterward, use the recommended gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sun protection. Do not pick peeling skin or add exfoliating products until the surface has recovered. Redness, warmth, dryness, or temporary darkening can occur during healing, so follow the individual aftercare plan rather than judging the final result early.

Contact the treating clinic if pain, swelling, redness, or drainage is increasing rather than settling, or if blisters, pus, fever, or spreading crusting develops. Seek urgent help for facial swelling that affects breathing or vision. New or persistent dark or light patches also deserve review, particularly if they continue after the expected healing period.
