Why is radiofrequency fibroid ablation device used in myomectomy?

Radiofrequency energy produces heat within targeted fibroid tissue. Depending on the device and surgical approach, the surgeon may use it to ablate tissue or support removal during a myomectomy. The aim is to address fibroids while preserving as much healthy uterine tissue as clinically appropriate.

The device is not suitable for every fibroid. Location, size, number, symptoms, fertility plans and the chosen surgical route all affect whether it is considered. Your surgeon should explain exactly how the device will be used in your operation.

Tell your gynaecology team about pregnancy plans, previous uterine surgery, medicines, allergies and any anaemia symptoms. Ask whether imaging is needed to map the fibroids and whether another treatment would fit your goals better.

After surgery, follow instructions about activity, wound care, medicines and follow-up. Mild cramping or tiredness can occur during recovery, but your discharge plan should explain what is expected for your procedure.

Contact the surgical team promptly for worsening pelvic pain, fever, foul-smelling discharge, increasing redness around an incision, inability to keep fluids down or bleeding that is becoming heavier. Seek urgent help for fainting, severe breathlessness, chest pain or sudden one-sided leg swelling and pain.
