Why is point-of-care ultrasound used in PRP injection?

PRP is prepared from a sample of your blood and placed near a selected tendon, ligament, joint or other soft-tissue target. Ultrasound can show the target, nearby vessels and the needle as it advances, helping the clinician choose an entry path and place the injection at the planned location. It can also show surrounding fluid or changes in the tissue that may affect the procedure.

Ultrasound guidance improves visual control, but it does not make every injection suitable or guarantee symptom relief. The decision depends on your examination, diagnosis, medicines, bleeding risk and the condition of the tissue.

Tell the clinician about blood-thinning medicines, bleeding disorders, infection, allergies, pregnancy and recent fever. Ask whether any medicine should be adjusted; do not stop prescribed treatment without medical direction. Afterward, follow the instructions about activity, wound care and pain relief. Avoid judging the result immediately, because the treated tissue may be sore while it settles and the response is assessed over follow-up.

Contact the treating team promptly if redness, warmth, swelling or pain is worsening rather than settling, or if you develop drainage or fever. Seek urgent care for severe pain with rapidly increasing swelling, fainting, breathing difficulty, or new weakness or numbness in the limb.
