Why does rubella cause joint pain?

During a viral illness, immune activity can make the lining and tissues around a joint more sensitive. This can feel like stiffness, aching, or pain with movement, sometimes affecting more than one joint. Joint pain is a common presentation of Rubella, but joint pain alone can arise from many conditions and injuries.
