Why does peptic ulcer cause nausea?

A peptic ulcer is a sore in the upper digestive tract. Acid and digestive juices can inflame the sore and affect how comfortably the stomach handles food. That irritation may send signals that produce nausea, sometimes alongside burning upper-abdominal pain, bloating, belching, or early fullness. Nausea is a common presentation of Peptic Ulcer, while nausea itself can have many different causes.

Nausea may be worse with an empty stomach, after eating, or when pain is active. Repeated vomiting is not something to manage alone, particularly if you cannot drink enough or notice any sign of bleeding.

Arrange a medical review if nausea continues, returns with upper-abdominal pain, or affects meals and fluids. The clinician may review your medicines, including anti-inflammatory pain medicines, ask about other digestive symptoms, and consider testing for an ulcer-related infection or further investigation.

Make a note of when nausea occurs, whether you vomit, what you ate beforehand, and any associated pain. Take small sips of fluid if tolerated. Do not delay assessment because an antacid or other remedy gives temporary relief.

Seek urgent medical help for vomit containing blood or coffee-ground material, black sticky stools, sudden severe abdominal pain, fainting, confusion, or marked weakness. Get prompt care if vomiting prevents you from keeping fluids down. Severe chest pain, pressure, breathlessness, sweating, or pain spreading to the arm, jaw, shoulder, or back also requires urgent assessment.
