Why Does Cutaneous Lupus Cause Sun Sensitivity?

In cutaneous lupus, the skin's immune activity can react strongly after exposure to ultraviolet light. This exposure may damage or stress skin cells and prompt inflammatory signals. A reaction can appear on exposed areas as redness, scaly patches, plaques, or sores, and it may become noticeable after the time spent outdoors rather than immediately. Light through windows and some artificial sources may matter for certain people. Sun sensitivity varies, and it does not by itself establish a lupus diagnosis.

Use shade, tightly woven clothing, a broad-brimmed hat, and sunscreen recommended for sensitive skin. Reapply sunscreen as directed, especially after sweating or swimming.
