Why does ADHD cause feeling anxious?

Short answer
ADHD can contribute to feeling anxious when disorganisation, missed details, time pressure or impulsive situations create repeated stress and uncertainty.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why the feelings may build
Managing appointments, deadlines, belongings and competing demands can take considerable effort for someone with ADHD. Worry may rise after past difficulties at school, work or home, especially when a task feels unclear or urgent. Feeling Anxious is a common presentation of ADHD, but it is not the same as a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder. Anxiety may also need its own assessment, particularly when worry is persistent, physical symptoms are prominent, or it leads to avoidance.
Ways to make the day more manageable
Choose a single place for appointments and reminders, and plan the next small action before leaving a task. Build in extra time for transitions where possible. Notice whether caffeine, alcohol, disrupted sleep or a particular setting makes anxious feelings worse. Discuss the pattern with a clinician; support may include a review of ADHD symptoms, talking therapies, lifestyle measures or treatment tailored to your needs.
When to get help
Seek professional support when anxiety is limiting sleep, eating, attendance, social contact or your ability to complete essential tasks. Get urgent help if you have thoughts of suicide, feel unable to keep yourself safe, experience severe agitation, or have chest pain, fainting or severe shortness of breath. Physical symptoms may need prompt medical assessment even when anxiety is present.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your symptoms fit anxiety, ADHD, or both; what triggers are worth tracking; and which supports can be used alongside any current ADHD treatment.
