White dry skin on the lips

Cold air, dry indoor air, sun, wind, frequent lip licking, dehydration, and irritating balms can strip moisture from the lip surface. Contact irritation may follow a new toothpaste, flavouring, cosmetic, or treatment. Eczema can affect the lips, while a persistent rough patch in a sun-exposed area needs examination rather than repeated peeling. White material inside the mouth, burning, or soreness may have a different cause from dry outer lips.
