Which specialist treats uterine fibroids?

A gynaecologist reviews bleeding, pelvic pressure, persistent bloating, pain, bladder or bowel symptoms, and fertility plans. Imaging helps show how many fibroids there are, where they sit, and whether they change the shape of the uterus. Symptoms and scan findings guide the discussion; a fibroid does not automatically require an operation.

A medical gynaecologist may discuss medicines such as tranexamic acid for heavy bleeding or a hormonal coil. A surgeon may discuss myomectomy, operative hysteroscopy, or hysterectomy. Uterine artery embolisation is usually discussed with an interventional radiologist, particularly when preserving the uterus is relevant.

Record bleeding days, flooding or clots, pain, pressure, fatigue, and medicines you have tried. Tell the clinician whether you hope to become pregnant, want to preserve the uterus, or are finished having children. These preferences can change which treatments are reasonable.
