Which specialist treats chronic lymphocytic leukaemia?

A haematologist focuses on diseases of the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system. A haematologist-oncologist also manages blood cancers and their treatments. In the UAE, the exact job title may vary between hospitals, so you may see either specialist.

The specialist reviews blood counts, examination findings, symptoms and any tests used to understand the CLL. They assess whether monitoring or active treatment is appropriate and explain how the condition may affect immunity, blood cells and lymph nodes.

Care can include a clinical nurse specialist, pharmacist, radiologist, infection specialist or other doctor. The team may discuss systemic options such as chemotherapy or targeted therapy when treatment is needed. Support for fatigue, infections and emotional wellbeing can also be part of care.
