An orthopaedic spine specialist, neurologist, or physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor can assess cervical spondylosis and coordinate treatment. A primary care doctor can begin the assessment and refer you when needed.

Cervical spondylosis describes age-related wear in the bones, discs, and joints of the neck. It may cause neck stiffness or pain, while irritation of a nerve can present with arm numbness and tingling. Pressure affecting the spinal cord is a separate concern called cervical myelopathy.

The specialist reviews your symptoms, strength, reflexes, sensation, and neck movement. Imaging may be considered when symptoms persist, neurological findings appear, or another problem needs to be excluded.

Start with a clinician who can examine your neck and arms. Treatment may include activity adjustments, medicines, and Physiotherapy. A spine specialist may discuss injections or cervical fusion only when examination and imaging show they are appropriate. Do not choose surgery from a scan alone.
