When to worry about a runny nose with sinusitis

Sinusitis can inflame the lining of the nose and sinus openings. Mucus may become thick, drain down the throat, or feel blocked rather than freely flowing. Facial pressure, reduced smell, cough, and discomfort around the cheeks or forehead can occur alongside it.

A change in colour alone does not show whether an infection needs antibiotics. Symptoms that are worsening, severe, or not settling deserve a clinician’s assessment, especially if you have a weakened immune system or a serious long-term illness.
