When to worry about pimples with folliculitis

Pimples is a common presentation of Folliculitis. The bumps often centre on hair follicles and may itch, sting, or contain a small amount of pus. Shaving, friction, sweating, tight clothing, or occlusive products can contribute. Bacterial, yeast-related, and non-infectious forms can appear alike, so repeated or stubborn bumps should not be treated by guessing at the cause.

Pause shaving over the affected area, reduce rubbing, change out of sweaty clothing, and avoid sharing towels or razors. Cleanse without scrubbing and avoid picking the bumps. Note whether the eruption follows hair removal, exercise, a hot environment, or a new product. A clinician may need to examine the follicles and choose an antimicrobial or anti-inflammatory approach.

Arrange medical review when bumps recur, persist, spread, form larger boils, or fail to improve after removing an obvious irritant. Seek prompt care for rapidly expanding redness, increasing warmth, severe tenderness, red streaking, fever, or feeling faint or unwell. Extra caution is needed if you have reduced immunity or a condition that affects healing.

Ask which folliculitis pattern is most likely, whether testing is needed, how to shave safely, and how long to use the recommended treatment. Mention recent antibiotics, steroid creams, hair-removal methods, allergies, and any recurrence.
