When to worry about heartburn with hiatus hernia

Heartburn is a very common presentation of Hiatus Hernia. A hiatus hernia occurs when part of the stomach moves through the opening in the diaphragm, and this can make reflux easier. Burning may follow meals, bending, or lying down; regurgitation, belching, or a bitter taste may occur as well.

A pharmacist or doctor can explain suitable antacid or acid-suppressing treatment. Arrange review if relief is short-lived or you need frequent doses. Do not change prescribed medicines without guidance.

Call emergency services for chest pain or pressure with breathlessness, sweating, nausea, faintness, or pain in the arm, jaw, neck, or back. Reflux and heart problems can feel alike.
