When to worry about fine lines with crow's feet

Crow's feet are lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes. Repeated smiling and squinting, gradual loss of skin elasticity, dryness, and sun exposure can make them more visible. Fine lines that develop slowly and affect both sides in a similar way are commonly part of facial ageing. A rough patch, crust, persistent redness, or a distinct spot is a different pattern from ordinary expression lines.

Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sunscreen; wear sunglasses to reduce squinting in bright light. Do not apply prescription creams, exfoliating acids, or cosmetic products directly into the eyes. If you want treatment, a dermatologist can assess skin thickness, pigmentation, expression movement, and nearby lesions before discussing suitable options. Take a clear photograph if a mark or texture is changing so you can compare it over time.

Book a skin assessment for a line or spot that changes in shape or colour, becomes scaly or crusted, bleeds, forms a sore that does not heal, or remains itchy or painful. Seek prompt care for significant eyelid swelling, eye pain, discharge, or a new vision change. Fine lines alone do not explain these symptoms, and the area around the eye deserves careful examination.

Ask whether the change is an expression line, dryness, sun-related texture, or a separate lesion; which eye-area products are suitable; and what changes should trigger a follow-up.
