What endometritis can feel like

Endometritis is inflammation or infection of the lining of the uterus after birth. Alongside fever, it can cause lower abdominal or pelvic pain, tenderness when the uterus is examined, chills, feeling unwell and vaginal discharge with an unpleasant smell. Bleeding that becomes heavier or changes after it had been settling also deserves review. A clinician may need to distinguish uterine infection from wound, breast, urinary or other causes of fever.

Call your maternity unit, obstetric team or doctor the same day and explain when the fever began, your bleeding pattern, discharge, pain, chills and medicines. Keep drinking fluids if you can and follow prescribed treatment instructions. Do not use leftover antibiotics or vaginal products without advice.
