When to worry about dizziness with labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis affects the inner-ear system that helps control balance and can cause spinning vertigo, unsteadiness, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes hearing change or ringing. Symptoms may feel worse when you move your head. Because stroke and other problems can also cause sudden dizziness, a new or unusual pattern should be checked rather than attributed to the ear automatically.

Rest in a quiet place, keep your head movements gentle, and use support when walking. Avoid driving, heights, swimming alone, and machinery until your balance has recovered. Sip fluids if nausea allows and follow prescribed treatment instructions. Arrange a clinical review if dizziness continues, hearing changes, vomiting prevents fluids, or walking remains difficult.

Call emergency services for facial drooping, one-sided weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, double vision, a new severe headache, fainting, inability to stand, or sudden major loss of coordination. Seek urgent care for persistent vomiting, dehydration, severe new hearing loss, or rapidly worsening vertigo.
