Short answer
Seek urgent medical advice if diarrhoea with norovirus causes signs of dehydration, blood in the stool, severe pain, confusion, or an inability to keep fluids down.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What diarrhoea can mean
Diarrhoea is a very common presentation of Norovirus Infection. It may occur with vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, and a raised temperature. The main concern is loss of fluid and salts, especially when vomiting makes drinking difficult. Children, older adults, and people with other health conditions can become dehydrated more quickly.
What you can do at home
Take frequent small sips of water or an oral rehydration drink. If vomiting is present, pause briefly and restart with small amounts. Eat light foods when you feel able, and avoid preparing food for other people while you are unwell. Wash hands with soap and water and clean contaminated surfaces, because norovirus spreads easily.
When to seek care
Contact a clinician promptly for very little urine, a dry mouth, dizziness when standing, unusual sleepiness, worsening weakness, persistent vomiting, blood or black stool, intense abdominal pain, or confusion. Emergency help is appropriate if you faint, cannot stay awake, or cannot keep any fluid down. Arrange medical review if symptoms are not settling or you have a condition that makes fluid loss more risky.
Questions for your doctor
Could my medicines or another illness increase my dehydration risk? Which rehydration drink is suitable for me? What changes in urine, alertness, or stool should prompt an urgent call? When can I safely return to work, school, or food preparation?

Questions people ask
Is every episode of diarrhoea with norovirus an emergency?
No. Many episodes improve with rest and careful rehydration, but dehydration, bleeding, severe pain, confusion, or inability to drink needs prompt medical attention.
What if diarrhoea comes with vomiting?
Try very small, frequent sips after a short pause. Seek urgent advice if vomiting prevents you from replacing fluids or urine becomes much less frequent.
