Short answer

Body Odour is a common presentation of Erythrasma; seek care when odour comes with a persistent discoloured rash or irritation.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Favoured areas
Warm, moist folds such as the groin and underarms are common sites.
Skin care
Wash gently and dry every fold carefully after bathing.

What erythrasma can look like

Erythrasma is a superficial bacterial infection that favours warm, moist areas such as the groin, underarms, and between skin folds. It may cause flat pink, red-brown, or darker patches with fine scaling, mild itch, or a musty odour. The borders can be subtle, and the rash may be mistaken for fungal irritation. Odour by itself does not establish the diagnosis; the location, colour, texture, and persistence help a clinician decide what is happening.

What to do at home

Gently wash the affected folds and dry them thoroughly, including after bathing or exercise. Wear loose, breathable clothing and change damp garments promptly. Avoid rubbing, bleaching products, and fragranced creams on the rash. Do not keep switching between random antifungal or antibacterial products, because the wrong treatment may irritate skin and obscure its appearance. Photograph the rash in good light and note whether it spreads, flakes, or returns.

When to seek care

Book a clinical review when a discoloured fold rash persists, odour returns, or home moisture measures do not help. Seek earlier care for increasing pain, warmth, swelling, pus, open skin, fever, or rapid spread. A clinician can distinguish erythrasma from fungal infection, dermatitis, or another rash and prescribe an appropriate topical or oral treatment when needed.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether the rash needs a bedside examination or skin test, how to keep the fold dry, and how long treatment should continue. Mention diabetes, recurrent episodes, sweating, recent antibiotics, and products used on the area.

Questions people ask

Does body odour confirm erythrasma?

No. Odour can occur for several reasons; a persistent discoloured fold rash needs examination to identify the cause.

Can erythrasma return?

It can recur when moisture and friction persist, so follow-up may help if the rash or odour returns after treatment.
