When is subcision recommended for cellulite?

Cellulite can create dimpling when connective tissue bands pull the skin downward around areas of underlying fat. Subcision uses a needle or cannula beneath the skin to release selected bands. It is intended for individual, persistent depressions rather than general skin texture, loose skin, swelling, or every cause of an uneven surface. The location, depth, skin laxity, bruising tendency, and any previous treatment affect the assessment. A consultation should also separate cellulite from a new lump or another skin problem.

Choose a clinician experienced in assessing body contour concerns and ask for an examination in the position where the dimples are visible. Describe how long they have been present and whether the appearance changes with standing, movement, or weight change. Share your medicines, allergies, bleeding history, and prior procedures. Discuss the expected bruising and swelling, activity restrictions, wound care, and whether another approach would better address loose skin or diffuse texture.

Have a new, painful, firm, rapidly enlarging, warm, or red area assessed before arranging cosmetic treatment. After subcision, contact the clinic for worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, persistent bleeding, or swelling that is increasing rather than settling.
