Spondylolisthesis means one vertebra has shifted in relation to another. The movement can irritate a nerve, narrow its passage, or create painful motion in the affected segment. Fusion holds the selected vertebrae together while the bone heals across them. The decision depends on symptoms and function, not on the label alone. Imaging may include standing views or movement views to assess alignment and stability.

Ask the specialist to explain whether your symptoms come from nerve pressure, spinal instability, or another source. Review the response to physiotherapy, activity changes, pain relief, and any other recommended treatment. Discuss whether decompression is also needed, what levels would be fused, and how rehabilitation may affect lifting, driving, work, and exercise. Take your imaging reports and a symptom timeline to the visit.

Seek urgent assessment for new bladder or bowel control problems, numbness around the groin, rapidly progressive leg weakness, or severe symptoms after an accident. Arrange prompt review for worsening walking ability, repeated falls, or spreading numbness or weakness.
