What to expect from IPL photofacial for spider veins

Spider veins are small visible blood vessels that can appear as fine red, purple, or branching lines. IPL light is absorbed by blood in selected superficial vessels and converts to heat, which can make the vessel less visible as the body clears it. IPL may suit some facial vessels, but depth, colour, location, skin tone, and the reason the vessels appeared all affect treatment choice. Larger or deeper veins may need a different vascular treatment.

During a session, eye protection and cooling are used while the device delivers quick pulses. You may feel warmth, pinching, or snaps. Treated lines can look redder at first and then change gradually. New vessels may appear later because IPL does not remove the factors that contribute to visible veins.

Tell the clinician about tanning, light-sensitive medicines, bleeding concerns, previous energy-treatment reactions, and any vein that is painful, swollen, or changing. Follow instructions about shaving, skincare, and sun avoidance. After treatment, keep the area clean and moisturised, avoid rubbing or picking, limit heat while redness is active, and use sun protection. Do not self-treat a painful or swollen vein as a cosmetic spider vein.

Contact the clinic if there is worsening pain, blistering, marked swelling, or a reaction that is not settling. Seek medical assessment for a painful warm swollen limb, sudden swelling, skin breakdown, pus, fever, or breathing symptoms; these concerns need medical evaluation rather than cosmetic treatment.
