What to expect from exercise therapy for osteoporosis

Short answer
You should expect carefully selected weight-bearing, strengthening, posture, and balance exercises matched to your bone health and fracture history.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What sessions may include
Your physiotherapist may ask about previous fractures, height loss, back pain, medicines, falls, and activities at home. Sessions can practise upright posture, leg and trunk strength, balance reactions, and ways to lift or turn without rounding the spine. Walking and other weight-bearing activity may be included when appropriate. The aim is confident, controlled movement and better function; exercise does not rebuild a weakened bone immediately. Your programme should be individualised, particularly if you have had a spinal or hip fracture.
Using the plan safely
Follow the prescribed technique and pace, and use stable support for balance exercises if advised. Avoid forceful bending forward, twisting under load, sudden high-impact activity, or lifting challenges that have not been assessed for you. Keep track of new back, hip, or rib pain and tell the clinician promptly. Wear suitable footwear, clear trip hazards, and keep attending any medical follow-up for bone health. When to seek care
Stop and seek urgent medical assessment after a fall or sudden pain with difficulty standing, walking, or using a limb. Seek prompt advice for new severe back pain, pain after a minor movement, sudden height change, or a new stooped posture. Contact your physiotherapist if an exercise repeatedly causes pain or you feel unsafe, so the plan can be changed.
Questions to ask
Do I need restrictions because of a previous fracture? Which impact and lifting activities are suitable? How can I practise balance safely at home? What symptoms should make me stop, and when should my programme be reviewed?

Questions people ask
Can I exercise if I have osteoporosis?
Many people can exercise, but the safest movements and loading depend on fracture history, symptoms, and general health.
Are all exercises suitable for osteoporosis?
No. A clinician can identify safer options and show how to avoid forceful spinal bending, twisting, or unassessed impact.
