What to expect from chemical peel for acne

The clinician examines active spots, oiliness, sensitivity, scarring, and any irritated or broken skin before choosing a peel. The solution is applied for a planned contact time and then removed or neutralised according to the product. You may feel tingling, warmth, tightness, or stinging during the appointment.

Afterward, redness, dryness, flaking, or a temporary increase in sensitivity can occur. A peel may help loosen surface cells and support clearer pores, but acne can have several drivers and may need a broader treatment plan. Improvement and irritation should be reviewed rather than judged from the first day.

Tell the clinician about acne medicines, retinoids, antibiotics, allergies, cold sores, eczema, recent waxing or shaving, and any active infection. Do not use unapproved exfoliants or pick spots before or after treatment, because broken skin is more vulnerable to irritation.

Follow the prescribed cleansing and moisturising routine, avoid rubbing or peeling flakes, and use broad-spectrum sun protection as directed. Pause products that sting unless your clinician says otherwise. Keep follow-up so the plan can be adjusted if breakouts or sensitivity change.

Contact the clinic for severe burning, blistering, marked swelling, worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, or a rash beyond the treated area. Seek urgent help for facial swelling or breathing difficulty. A sudden change in acne with painful nodules or scarring also warrants medical review.
