What is time-lapse embryo imaging used for?

A specialised incubator takes images at set intervals while embryos develop in controlled conditions. The resulting sequence lets the embryology team review cell divisions, timing, and visible changes over the culture period. Embryos can usually remain in the incubator rather than being removed for every observation.

This information may add context when the team assesses embryo development for IVF or blastocyst culture. It does not examine the embryo’s genes, predict pregnancy by itself, or replace the embryologist’s clinical judgement.

Ask whether the clinic offers time-lapse imaging, what decisions it may support, and how the recordings will be reviewed. Confirm whether it changes your planned laboratory process or is an optional monitoring method. Your team can explain how it fits with IVF, ICSI, or blastocyst culture.

Contact the clinic promptly if you have severe pain, heavy bleeding, fever, faintness, or marked abdominal swelling during fertility treatment.
