What is the first treatment for cervical radiculopathy?

Cervical radiculopathy happens when a nerve root in the neck is irritated or compressed. Pain, tingling, numbness or weakness may extend along the arm, depending on the nerve involved. Early care aims to calm irritation, keep the neck and shoulder moving safely, and maintain strength without aggravating the nerve. A clinician should check the diagnosis before medication or exercise is started.

Keep gently active and change positions regularly rather than staying in bed. A physiotherapist can tailor neck, shoulder and upper-limb exercises and review posture or work tasks.
