What is a PRP injection done with?

A clinician takes a small blood sample and processes it to concentrate platelets in a plasma layer. After the target area is cleaned, the prepared material is placed at the selected tendon, ligament, joint or other tissue with a sterile needle. Point-of-care ultrasound can show the anatomy in real time and help the clinician position the needle. The injection is planned around your diagnosis and symptoms; PRP is not the same as a steroid or local anaesthetic injection, and the contents of a preparation can vary.

Tell the clinic about medicines, allergies, bleeding problems, infection, pregnancy and recent illness. Ask which medicines or supplements should be continued or paused; do not stop a prescribed medicine without advice. Arrange the recommended activity restriction after treatment and follow the clinic’s wound-care instructions. Temporary soreness can occur, so use only the pain-relief plan your clinician recommends and return to loading gradually through the rehabilitation plan.

Call the treating clinic for worsening redness, warmth, drainage, fever, increasing swelling or pain that is not following the expected pattern. Seek urgent care for severe allergic symptoms, fainting, chest pain, or new weakness or numbness. A new symptom after an injection deserves advice about whether it reflects irritation, infection or another problem.
