What is ovarian stimulation done with?

Gonadotrophins are hormones given by injection to encourage follicles in the ovaries to grow. A GnRH agonist or GnRH antagonist may be used to control the timing of ovulation and reduce the chance of an early hormone surge. The exact combination depends on the fertility treatment, ovarian response, and previous cycle information.

When the follicles are ready, an hCG trigger injection may help the final maturation step and provide a planned time for egg collection or ovulation-related treatment. These medicines are used under close clinical supervision.

Attend ultrasound and blood-test appointments so the team can assess follicle growth and adjust medicines when needed. Learn the injection technique, storage instructions, dose timing, and what to do if a dose is late or missed. Keep a written record of each injection.

Mild bloating, pelvic pressure, or injection-site soreness can occur. Drink fluids as advised, avoid changing the dose yourself, and ask which activity level is suitable while the ovaries are enlarged.

Contact your fertility team promptly for rapidly increasing abdominal swelling, significant pelvic pain, repeated vomiting, reduced urine, sudden weight change, or breathlessness. Seek urgent care for severe pain, fainting, chest pain, or difficulty breathing, especially after the trigger injection.
