What is myomectomy done with?

A hysteroscopic myomectomy reaches fibroids that bulge into the womb through the vagina and cervix. Laparoscopic surgery uses small abdominal openings and a camera; a robotic surgery system may assist with instrument control in selected cases. Open myomectomy uses a larger abdominal incision when fibroid size, number or position makes that approach more appropriate. The surgeon removes fibroid tissue while preserving the uterus.

Imaging and examination help determine the route, anaesthesia and expected recovery. Tell your surgeon about bleeding, anaemia, medicines, previous abdominal surgery and plans for pregnancy. Discuss how the fibroids will be removed, whether tissue will be sent for laboratory assessment, activity restrictions and the plan for future pregnancy.

Contact your surgical team promptly for heavy bleeding, fever, worsening pain, vomiting, wound redness or drainage, calf swelling or difficulty breathing. Sudden severe pain or collapse requires emergency care.
