What is mid-urethral sling done with?

The strip is placed beneath the middle of the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the body. It acts as a supportive hammock during activities that increase pressure in the abdomen, such as coughing or lifting. The mesh is intended to remain in place while tissue grows around it. Different approaches pass the sling behind the pubic bone or through the inner thigh area.

Ask which sling route your surgeon recommends and why it fits your symptoms, examination and previous operations. Discuss alternatives, anaesthesia, recovery restrictions, urinary symptoms and the surgeon’s experience with the procedure. Report current urine infections, difficulty emptying your bladder or previous mesh problems before treatment.

Get prompt medical advice for inability to pass urine, fever, worsening pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, foul-smelling discharge or new severe leg pain. Contact the surgical team about persistent burning, recurrent infections, painful intercourse or a sensation of mesh exposure.
