What it does

It is a form of progesterone prepared as very small particles, which can be taken by mouth or used vaginally depending on the prescribed plan. In hormone replacement therapy, it may be combined with oestrogen to help protect the lining of the womb when a person has a womb. In fertility treatment, progesterone can support the womb lining after ovulation or embryo transfer.

Using it safely

Use the route, dose and timing prescribed for you, because schedules differ between menopause care and fertility treatment. Do not change or stop it without contacting the prescribing clinician. Drowsiness, dizziness, breast tenderness or changes in bleeding can occur; taking an oral dose at bedtime may be advised.
