What Is Meniscus Repair Done With?

An arthroscope is a small camera placed through a keyhole-sized opening in the knee. It lets the surgeon inspect the meniscus and nearby cartilage on a monitor. Other small instruments pass through separate openings to freshen the tear edges and place stitches that bring suitable meniscus tissue together.

A suture anchor can hold the repair in place when the tear pattern or location calls for it. The exact stitch pattern and material depend on the tear, the blood supply in that region, knee stability, and the tissue quality found during surgery. Not every meniscus tear can be repaired.

Recovery commonly includes a brace, crutches, and limits on knee bending or weight-bearing for a period chosen by the surgeon. Do the prescribed exercises to restore movement without stressing the repair. Keep dressings clean, take medicines as directed, and attend follow-up visits so progress can be checked.

Call the surgical team for increasing redness, warmth, drainage, fever, or pain that is not controlled by the prescribed plan. Seek urgent care for a cold or discoloured foot, new severe calf swelling, chest pain, breathing difficulty, or sudden inability to move the leg.
