What is kojic acid used for?

Kojic acid is a topical ingredient that interferes with tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in making melanin. With regular, tolerated use, this can make some areas of excess pigment look less noticeable over time.

It may be included in a cream, serum or professional brightening plan for concerns such as post-inflammatory marks or uneven tone. It does not remove the cause of every pigment change, and darkening can return when the trigger remains active.
